Studies in Luxembourgish Micro-Toponymy and Linguistic History

This study analyses the linguistic history of Luxembourgish, as the Standard language of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, using micro-toponyms as a source of linguistic traits and for cultural expressions of space. The aim of the study is to use toponomastic data to reverse engineer the developmental processes that led to Modern Standard Luxembourgish, while focusing on phonological, morphological and syntactical aspects. A broad overview of a few of the key lexical entities represented in the data source offers insights into local rural history and language use. Diese Arbeit untersucht sprachgeschichtliche Phänomene des Luxemburgischen, der Nationalsprache des Großherzogtums Luxemburg, anhand von Mikrotoponymen, primär Flurnamen, die durch ihre Mündlichkeit eine relevante Quelle der Sprachgeschichte sind. Dabei werden die Flurnamen auch auf ihren Wert als Quelle für Studien des kulturellen Ausdrucks und Umgangs mit der Natur untersucht. Es wurden rund 200.000 Namenbelege gesammelt und dann durch computerlinguistische Methoden verarbeitet, bevor sie formal ausgewertet wurden.
