Dahls Norwegen

Anfang des 19. Jh. erkannte J.C. Dahl (1788-1857) das politische Potential der Landschaftsmalerei. Fest verankert im diskursiven Umfeld der europäischen Kulturelite trug er von Dresden aus zur nationalen Identitätsstiftung seines Heimatlandes Norwegen bei. Wenig bekannt blieb, dass sich sein Wirken auch in Denkmalschutz und Publizistik niederschlug. Ein Großteil seines Schaffens kann nur unter Berücksichtigung jener Aspekte verstanden werden. Als Maler, Denkmalschützer, Publizist verknüpfte Dahl wissenschaftliche, topographische, ästhetische, historische, politische und mythologische Aspekte mit einem nordischen und nationalen Identitätsdiskurs. Die erste deutschsprachige Monographie über Dahl geht dem vielseitigen Wirken dieser Künstlerpersönlichkeit aus kunst- und kulturhistorischer Perspektive nach.
